The Map Server is composed of two parts; a single web page and a mapping program that enables a web server to produce maps. When the Map Server is started, the web page is downloaded on to the local computer and the mapping program and web server are initialised.
The web page includes a series of interactive tools that allow the user to create different maps. Whenever these tools are used, the web page communicates with the mapping program on the web server and a new map is created. The new map is then sent by the web server to the local machine where it is incorporated within the original web page.
The interface provides a map display, a series of map tools and a range of options for creating personalised maps.
There are four map tools that can be applied to the map. To activate the tool of your choice, simply click on the corresponding radio button
.
